FASHION FLOWARD - GRACE CIAO
She’s had a love of fashion since she was a little girl, and would make dresses for her Barbie dolls from scraps her grandmother gave her. Grace is a 22 year old fashion illustrator from Singapore, who truly has taken the traditional fashion sketch a step further. She neither uses ink or pencil when creating her illustrations, her mind-blowing designs are insanely well put together using just flowers and splashes of watercolour to shape the contours of the bodies. The way she skilfully arranges the flowers in each drawing makes them look like they never belonged anywhere else besides the illustration.
Grace draws inspiration from everything around her. Her attention to detail makes her flower dresses shine and there is something very delicate and incredibly graceful about her designs. The petals’ luxurious, velvety feel could mimic the fabric used in bridal and haute couture gowns. “They help me create prints which I otherwise couldn’t have thought of,” Grace explains in an interview.
Ciao clams that she started using flower petals by accident, when she just wanted to preserve the beauty of a dying rose that was given to her by a boy. This initial romantic gesture has developed Ciao’s signature style andwe can’t stop marvelling – The marriage of natural fresh flower petals to her sketches is exhibited with such symmetry and effortless beauty. Ciao has produced a series of final pieces including bodices, flowing skirts and even jumpsuits we are all desperate to get our hands on!
