After four years, Kelis has finally released an Album that has left us more than satisfied. The album titled ‘Food’ dropped this week and we really love the new sound from Kelis. Leaving the club beats of her last album ‘Flesh Tone’ in 2010, this bossy vocalist has opted for a more vintage soul vibe which comes at no surprise as she has never been one to box herself into one category which is another reason why we love her.
The album name comes with a story that only adds to our appreciation for her craft. A woman of many talents, Kelis is also a certified chef with her own sauce line and cooking show. Her latest album was recorded in an intimate studio where Kelis would spend time cooking in the kitchen at the studio. It is said that the song titles reflect the dishes she cooked at the time of recording i.e ‘Jerk Ribs’ and ‘Biscuts n’ Gravy’ and we are reminded of her two loves, cooking and motherhood, in her song ‘Breakfast’ which begins with a sweet young voice (perhaps her son) saying to friends “Hey guys, are you hungry? My mom made food!”
Kelis has really shown her diverse vocal abilities in this album and not only is it a great listen but it also leaves us excited for what she has in store for us next.
